I was glad to participate in cheering on this canvassing event organized by EqualityNC, as well as Jasmine’s and Allison’s campaign, and pleased to be joined by so many fine candidates in a variety of local, state, and national races.

My public day began with a meal at Haywood Street Congregation. This was one of the best experiences of my life in Asheville. I’m so grateful for the welcome from my friend Kathy (seen at work in the kitchen), server Patty, and my wonderful tablemates Clive, Keri, John, Glenn, Elie, and Frank. It was a true experience of community, and while this was my first visit I promise that it will certainly not be my last. Just writing about it now fills my heart up again.
I spent the rest of my day at East AVL Library, Wesley Grant Center, the River Arts District Farmer’s Market, and the Fellowship Community Center. My thanks to everyone who stopped to speak to me, and everyone at other sites who was kind enough to speak *for* me. I’m truly grateful.
I was honored to participate in the excellent Bilingual Candidate Forum hosted by Asheville-Buncombe Food Policy Council, Asheville Buncombe Community Land Trust, Bountiful Cities, CIMA, Just Economics, Poder Emma, and the Racial Justice Coalition. These groups are leading the way in vital community-building; city government should be supporting and empowering them, and all our residents.
Asheville on Bikes mixed things up a bit for their “Get There AVL” City Candidates forum this time, using a game show format and a pinch of improv. This is a YouTube playlist of my contributions to the evening’s proceedings.
