I’m so honored and proud that I’ve received endorsement from the Buncombe County and Asheville City Associations of Educators! Thank you, BCAE/ACAE! Public education is a vital cornerstone of a healthy democracy; an informed and educated citizenry is prepared to participate in our civil society, to hold public servants accountable, and to make good decisions about the well-being of our city, county, state, and nation.

Should ACS and BCS Merge?

I recently had someone ask me whether or not I favored consolidating the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems. I don’t yet have a well-informed opinion on this matter, although I’ve heard impassioned arguments on both sides; I need to learn more.

I’m glad, however, that we will soon have an elected School Board. It is likely to be filled with people with far more direct experience and insight on this topic than I — and I’d be inclined to give great deference to their views.
